A fortunate victory, but I kept believing!
The Blues could relax and rejoice after last night's crucial 3-2 victory in the fourth match of group E. Victor Moses's header decided the final outcome in the 94. minute. "These are three points of utmost importance," said Chelsea's captain Petr with a relieve.
Would you say that the odds were in your favour?
Having scored the winning goal during the last attack of the game, there was surely a lot of luck involved, as well. It kind of reminded me of the last season of the Champions League; we fought all the way till the end, didn't give up and for that we were rewarded. I'm assuming it was our experience that helped us win. At 2-2 the opponent had several chances which they didn't seize. We punished them for that.
Were you losing hope towards the end?
By the end I had totally stopped focusing on time. I kept hoping there we'd get at least one more chance, one more free kick or a corner. I knew we could score and then suddenly- bam! Last attacking action of the game. Moses, who'd been playing more often recently, took care of it. He did a fantastic job and you can tell he's on his way up.
During the game you were in the lead twice, but that never seemed to last long.
Unfortunately so. Even after we were told during the half-time break how essential it was that we don't get the opponent to make a comeback. Shakhtar scored right away, though, which put them in a perfect position. A draw wasn't good enough for us, so we were forced to develop more pressure in the offence. Shakhtar kept focusing on counter-attacks which they did more than well; they had one particular 20-minute streak when almost all of their attacks proposed a great threat to us.
How would you assess your chances for further advancement?
In the next round we'll be playing Juventus and if we win, we'll secure our advancement, whereas if we lose, we could find ourselves fighting for it until the last minute of the very last game.
What did your friend Tomas Hübschman say after the game, was he disappointed?
He knew they were very close to tying us at the very least when they made some mistakes. In the next round they're going to Denmark, though, where they have a high chance of winning. Therefore in the end we could theoretically both celebrate advancement.
