A great result, though we could have scored more
Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the 24th round of the Premier League, by virtue of which the Blues have now caught up with City in the table. “It’s an extremely crucial win,” stated Petr after the match.
How pleased are you with the result?
It’s an satisfying outcome and an essential one, too. We did a great job for the whole duration of the game, although we were a bit unlucky at times. We could have also made the victory slightly more pronounced by scoring a couple more goals. One way or another, we deserved the win nonetheless.
City got in quite a few scoring opportunities themselves.
The game was particularly dynamic on both sides. Loved the intensity. Of course, this sparked some scoring chances, as well. It was a scuffle between two teams which are both on top form. That’s why I maintain that even a one goal win can be considered a major success.
You performed two brilliant saves during the match. Which one of them was harder to execute?
Probably Jovetic’s attack towards the end. His shot flew past everyone in the way and I hadn’t really seen the ball coming. David Silva’s free kick was going right in the top corner but that time I had the maneouvre under control.
It was Branislav Ivanovic who struck the winner; he is more of an occasional scorer.
It was an amazing strike. Hart didn’t know what hit him. Ivanovic has a propensity for being dangerous when it comes to free kicks. He always seems to know how to position himself. He demonstrated that all right.
How important is the win in relation to the ongoing battle for the top spot?
Very. If we’d lost we would have thrown six points out of the window. This way City and us are even, though they are still the biggest favourites out there. Arsenal is two points ahead but that doesn’t change a thing for us. We’ll be striving to just as well when playing against Newcastle.
Your manager Mourinho claims the team has been gradually becoming younger. How have the newer team members been integrating?
Take Willian and Matic, for instance. They both outdid themselves against City. I surely hope they continue to do so in the future, as well.
