A strong finish- all thanks to Rafa
The Blues finished the season on top form. After their victory in the European League they beat Everton 2-1 in the Premier League, and thus qualified for Champions League.
"In the end it all worked out. We got the silverware we wanted and placed third in the Premier League. I think we should be happy with that. It's probably Rafa Benitez who deserves the most credit. We're glad we could say goodbye by finishing on a high note. I'd also like to commend our fans for the amount of positive banners dedicated to him that I spotted during the game. It was a nice way of acknowledging his contributions," said Petr. After the match the Blues got to show off their trophies and enjoyed an ovation from the fans. "Due to the fact that we're the first team to win both the Champions and Europa League, UEFA had both of the trophies shipped to us so that we could display both of them. We took pictures next to them with our families. My wife and kids were there, it really was nice," revealed Petr.
There were goodbyes to be said, as well. "A couple of our boys are leaving: Ferreira, Turnbull and Benayoun. Paulo Ferreira is one of my good friends and an amazing teammate, we've both played for Chelsea since 2004. Ross is an excellent goalkeeper but he needs to play more, which is why he's leaving. Fingers crossed for them."
It was Petr's 31st birthday on the following day, however he could not celebrate much as he had to depart for Chelsea's USA tour on Monday. "I got some breathtaking birthday cake and the kids put candles on it. That made me happy." Petr and the rest of the team are now in the US to face Manchester City twice in a row; in St. Louis on Thursday and at the Yankee Stadium in New York on Saturday.
