An outstanding 100th cap celebration: clean sheet and three points
Petr will have great memories of his 100th cap game. With a spectacular performance he maintained a clean sheet in a qualification match in Armenia, the Czech national team won 3-0 and Petr was named the best player of the match alongside his teammate Vydra.
"We were in a situation where we had to win unconditionally. Anything else was out of the question. In the end it all went well and I'm glad I could celebrate my 100th cap with both a win and a clean sheet," said Petr after the match.
"I think we generally did pretty well. The goal we scored right after half time was vital and we managed to stay focused up until the final whistle. It really wasn't an easy game, and we were under a lot of pressure," Petr praised the team's performance.
He demonstrated some immense skill mainly in the first half. "The ball was fast and unpredictable. A couple of times it swerved back and forth right in front of me and I had to watch out for long shots," added Petr
Petr's jubilee did not go unnoticed in Chelsea. On their website Petr's close friends spoke about his 'magical hundred'- Portuguese defender Pulo Ferreira and French keeper coach Christoph Lollichon who Petr has worked with since his employment at Rennes.
"It's amazing, I am really pleased for him," said Paulo. "He has had injuries that could have prevented him from playing more but he is amazing and he deserves this achievement. I think he has a few more years to play for his country also, so I am really happy for him to reach 100 caps," added the Portuguese defender.
Likewise, Christoph only had words of praise for Petr. "[He] is a fantastic man," he said. "He tries to do everything to maintain his performance, and he has all the qualities - mentally, tactically, physically. He is special, the complete goalkeeper."
"For his country to have him is very lucky, but he has been unlucky that it has been difficult to win titles," stated Lollichon. "To play 100 times is a fantastic achievement, but it is normal because Petr is one of the best goalkeepers in the world."
Petr is returning to London today as Chelsea are about to face a long streak of games: Premier League in Southampton on Saturday, FA Cup with Manchester United in Monday, Europa League with Kazan on Thursday and finally a League game against Sunderland next Sunday.
