An unfortunate two-point loss

"If you fail to score, you can't really hope to win. We had loads of chances but sometimes you simply don't achieve what you deserve," said Petr who then commended Southampton counterpart Foster for his performance. "Their goalie was the man of the match and certainly had their backs at important times. Unfortunately we didn't find a way to score at least once." he added.

"What's positive is that we defended pretty well. We manage to deal with their breakaways as well as free kicks, which they're confident in. We created lots of opportunities for ourselves but the negative is that we never did score from them. We simply failed to break the curse this time," Petr stated.

Arsenal now find themselves in the fourth spot of the table, losing five points on leading Leicester. "We've lost two points now that we're eventually going to have to gain back somewhere. For now there's no reason to panic since we've still lots of strong teams to play; if we beat them, the tables will turn. Obviously it's not ideal to let our main rivals gain a lead on us but the season's long and the table tends to change quickly."

Yet, Petr had a reason to celebrate on the day of the match: he found out in the morning that he had been voted Arsenal's player of the month by the fans. "I was really happy about that, it's a nice reward. I hope to keep up my performance and that we'll all do our best in order to stay on course to winning the title," Petr concluded.
