Bayern was in a 2-0 lead after the first half an hour and Alaba scored a third goal right before the interval. “The game didn’t go as planned at all in the first half. Bayern, on the other hand, was brilliant. They were more aggressive and exposed us to enormous pressure. Their goals were the result of that,” admitted Petr.
His friend Robben sent in a fourth goal after the break, whereupon Giroud managed to answer with one of his own for Arsenal in the 69th minute. Nonetheless, Arsenal made sure to have the last word and Müller scored the winner just before the final whistle. “We improved after half-time, adopted a high-risk approach to the game and had a lot of chances. But Arsenal only used this for counterattacks. The result is well-deserved. Bayern is to be congratulated,” Petr stated.
Arsenal now find themselves in a complicated position in Group F. Olympiakos ultimately beat Dinamo Zagreb by virtue of a goal in the 90th minute and thus share nine points with Bayern. Arsenal only holds three. They need to win the remaining two matches and hope that Bayern manage to beat Olympiakos. On top of this, Arsenal must win in Piraeus by two goals. “The chance is still there which is essential. We’ve simply got to ace the rest,” Petr commented on Arsenal’s qualification prospects.
