Capital One Cup quarter-finals qualification with Petr’s help
The Blues qualified for the Capital One Cup quarter-finals after a 2-1 win against League Two team Shrewsbury Town.
Chelsea took the lead shortly after the break thanks to Drogba, however Shrewsbury still managed to equalise in the 77th minute. Fortunately, the Blues refused to relent and substitute Willian, with Shrews player Grandison’s own-goal assistance, immediately went on to score the winner.
“We’re happy about the qualification. That was our only goal and it’s worked out fine. It was a big day for Shrewsbury, match of the season in fact. You could tell that from the overall atmosphere as well as their players’ performance. It was obvious that they were playing to the hilt. They certainly managed to make it hot for us and we were forced to fight tooth and nail,” said Petr.
“We were struggling to grow accustomed to the rough terrain at first, but were able to improve our movement in the second half, which resulted in us getting the top hand and, eventually, scoring. Our hosts equalised with a pretty lucky goal from a corner kick, which pushed us into getting back on our feet and scoring a winner right away,” added Petr after the game.
