“First of all I’m happy about the three points. The clean sheet is a bonus. But 190 is quite the number,” said the Premier League record holder. “I’m excited about any clean sheet to be honest, but all the more those which help the whole team win. With a score of 0-0 you’re more likely to regret the loss of potential points,” admitted Petr.

The Gunners only managed to score in the second half against Sunderland, who are last in the table and headed down to the Championship. Both goals were authored by Alexis Sanchez.

“You could tell in the first half that we were a little out of juice after all the other games. It took a while before we got into the groove of things. They defended well which posed a test for our nerves and patience,” described Petr.

“It was important that we not panic. We had a plenty of opportunities in the second half and the key was to stay patient. The opponents resisted for a long time; they would either always clear the ball somehow or their goalie would deal with it. They were playing for honour, had nothing to lose, whereas we had to win. After we’d scored the first goal, it was basically all over,” Petr evaluated the game’s progress.

“It surely was a well-deserved win. On out part there were countless scoring opportunities and we got the three points for our proactivity.”

Heading into the last round, the Gunners remain in the fifth place of the table. In order to reach the fourth, they now need to beat Everton on Sunday and hope for their rivals’ hesitation. “All we can do is win the last match. There’s nothing we can do about our opponents’ potential results. Everton are a high quality team; however, a loss isn’t an option at this stage,” added Petr.
