Eto’o still on top form
The Blues could celebrate their hundredth win in the European cups after they defeated Schalke in the Champions League. “A hundred is by no means a small number. It proves that we participate in the cups regularly and successfully,” said Petr after the 3-0 win.
Petr made sure he contributed to Chelsea’s success as much as he could and was even praised by manager Mourinho for his saving Draxler’s shot in the 52. minute. “My view was obstructed and he struck hard but I was in the right position and I managed to deflect the ball with the tips of my fingers.” described Petr.
Chelsea won 3-0 at home, much like last round in Germany. “We were looking to rectify our last loss in the League, which we now have. Additionally, we scored three goals and we now find ourselves in a very convenient position in the table. We’re three points ahead and advancement is almost secured. It wasn’t an easy game, however we made sure we wouldn’t let things get out of hand,” stated Petr.
The Blues scored the first goal in a highly unconventional manner. Schalke goalkeeper Hildebrand inadvertently kicked the ball to Eto’o, from whom it rebounded into Schalke’s goal. “I talked to Hildebrand for a while after the game. I wished him all the best and tried to cheer him up a bit. It’s never easy to make a keep your chin up after an unfortunate mistake like that. But then again that’s what football is all about. We were lucky things played out this way, although Eto’o’s tackling was indeed commendable, as well.”
Petr was pleased by the fact that both attackers managed to score and thus fill in for injured Torres effectively. “Not too long ago our attackers were being subjected to waves of critique, but now it seems that all of them are back on track. Eto’o played really well. You could tell he’s still got it. That’s obviously why Chelsea was interested in him in the first place, too. I do hope his top form will last for a long time.” added Petr.
