„It was a very tough game. We played well during the first half. We maintained possession, variated a lot and scored two nice goals,“ stated Petr. „The Latvians then went on to make some changes and became considerably more aggressive by taking more risks. Too bad I conceded one because after that they only became all the more confident and the last 20 minutes were quite hectic. But we managed to deal with it and we're off to the next stage anyway,“ added Petr.

The Czech team's favourable position was only furthered by Turkey's victory over the Netherlands on Sunday. The Czech Republic is through to the EURO for the sixth time in a row. „We've only got strong opponents in our group. But we got the difficult games out of the way and the team proved its hunger for success despite the new line-up,“ explained Petr.

„The last little step tends to be the hardest one and this was the exact case with Latvia, too. It's a great advantage to have qualified now already. We're about to face Turkey in the next match and I guarantee they'll be playing tooth and nails. If we'd lost against Latvia, we'd have to be just as aggressive and we wanted to avoid that,“ Petr admitted. „To qualify two games in advance in a group like ours is sheer luxury,“ he declared.
