"The fact that we've got three points is by far the most important. Chelsea beat Manchester City in the morning, which put a sudden six point difference between us and its good we managed to bring it back down to three. Plus, we are able to benefit from City's hesitation and they are now below us," stated Petr.
He was about to reach his 183rd Premier League clean sheet, however the prospects of this were spoiled by Carroll 10 minutes before the end. West Ham, the hosts, hit the crossbar fron a free kick and Carroll—completely unattended—proceeded to send the ball in with a header.
"The ball went pretty high and only fell onto the crossbar at the last second. I knew it wouldn't be a goal but, unfortunately, instead of rebounding up and into my hands it bounced directly over to his head. There wasn't much I could do," Petr described.
"It's obviously a shame to lose a clean sheet ten minutes before the end. Especially in a game which we had fully under control. But as I said, the three points are what matters. Last season we drew with West Ham, whereas now we managed to keep our cool," said Petr.
He was happy the team was able to demonstrate its strengths. "We showed just how mature a team we had and retained the upper hand. In the first half already we had a plenty of scoring opportunities and, had we scored from one of them, we would have won by even more. There were about three instances in which we literally missed by inches. But we kept it going and other goals came. Although West Ham eventually lowered our lead, we managed to respond with yet another goal within two minutes. I'm pretty happy about that."
Petr was equally proud of Sánchez's performance; he scored a hattrick and even got an assist to another goal. "Alexis is in great shape, we rely on him quite a bit. He can be the one to decide outcomes and you can really tell just how much he enjoys football. That's fantastic and I hope his shape lasts," he added.
