I’ll only start contemplating my future after I’m back from Australia
Petr chose the best way to finish this season of Premier League. He returned to the goal for the last duel with Sunderland, helped the Blues towards a 3-1 win and joined the team for post-match celebrations with their new trophy. It is already Petr’s fourth title at Stamford Bridge.
How did you find the last league game of the season?
It was nice to be back in action. I would probably have returned sooner - I had the opportunity two matches beforehand - had it not been for my calf injury that I got during one of our training sessions. This time I wasn’t 100% sure either, but luckily my leg had healed decently and I could at least partake in the last game.
In addition to that you also received your trophy.
That was another reason why it felt so awesome to be back. Main thing we won, though. Didier Drogba played his last game for us and for me it was a great honour to be able to be there, especially considering the fact that we’d fought for the Blues together for 11 years with a single break. The cup was just icing on the cake.
How did you celebrate?
Just how you’d expect. It’s a bit different when you know you’ve won three weeks in advance. The biggest celebrations always take place immediately after the game you’ve secured the title in. After this game we shared some moments with the cup and I’m happy Didier got to leave on a high note like this. He’s the real champion who fully deserved to walk off the pitch with a trophy in his hand.
What went on in the changing rooms after the game?
We had some champagne there, so we had a celebratory drink. My wife and kids, parents, father-in-law as well as a couple of my friends were all at the stadium. Then there was an after party with everyone’s families and all the club members in general. Yesterday we also went on an open roof bus ride around London which was great fun.
What did you indulge in at the after party?
Considering the fact I had to drive later, I only had one little glass and didn’t drink anymore. I had some wine at home later with the family.
Some of the champions from 2005 with whom you won the first title under José Mourinho made an appearance at the stadium before the match. How was it to see them again?
Very nice. We went out to meet them with John Terry, Didier and the manager. I hadn’t seen some of those guys for a long time. Most of them turned up, but some of them couldn't make it. Unfortunately one of those people was Jiří Jarošík who still had club-related obligations at Alaves. Some of those guys don’t even play anymore, so I was really looking forward to seeing them again. They joined as at the after party, so we all got a chance to catch up.
You mentioned Drogba’s stylish goodbye. Has it occurred to you that other Premier League icons such as Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard left the scene for good on the very same day?
Unfortunately that’s how it turned out. You can’t stop time. The three of them are all approximately the same age and it’s a great pity to see such Premier League legends go.
The media around the entire world are speculating whether this was your last game for Chelsea or not. Can you reveal what the reality is?
Everyone’s asking me that and I keep responding that we’re flying off to Thailand and Australia for a tour on Wednesday. When we’re back I’ll sit down with some important people and we’ll consider all options. I’ve got a contract with Chelsea for another year and it’s not that I’m going anywhere now. I’ll make a decision based on what turns out to be the best for me, but now’s not the time. Plus - the transfer season only starts in July.
