Jubilee game and a draw with Italy
Petr ended the 2012-2013 season with a clean sheet in a qualifying game against Italy. It was his 70. national cap, which indeed is very unique for a goalkeeper.
"I'm glad we got a point out of it at least, although we could have done better. All we had to do was score from one of the many opportunities," said Peter after the match where he got to compete against yet another world-class goalkeeper, Gigi Buffon. Buffon was significantly more occupied than Cech and it was thanks to him that the scoreboards read 0-0 upon the final whistle. "I joked around with him after the game and I told him he could have let one slip," recalled Petr. He hopes the Czech national team will be encouraged by their draw with Italy when they clash with other teams in bid to qualify for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. "We kept our hopes up. As long as we keep this up we should be in a good position to win the games ahead of us."
Petr left for Ostrava on the following day to attend his ex-teammate from the national team Marek Jankulovski's end of career party. His vacation began on Sunday. "I can't wait, I'm really craving some rest. It was a demanding season and now I've got to recharge my batteries."
