Newcastle duty complete
PETR CECH held firm as Chelsea won 2-0 at St James' Park with Frank Lampard and Florent Malouda striking between the 56th and 65th minute.
Newcastle was probably denied a goal on 72 minutes when Michael Owen lofted Petr and Ashley Cole looked to kicked the ball away from behind the line.
As the Newcastle coach Alan Shearer's first game in charge was marked with no goal and no point, Chelsea is now on the third place with four-point gap on Manchester Utd having played one more game than the Red Devils.
"Every clean sheet is pleasant, this one especially because it is from Newcastle where any game is easy. But we got the three points, so we can be satisfied," said Petr after the match against the relegation candidate.
"Until there is the chance to reach the title, we are going to struggle for it," added the Chelsea stopper.
The Blues are now to encounter Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals. The first leg is set on Wednesday.
"It is always great if the team wins before such an important match. We have succeeded, so we can fully focus on the next game," conluded the Czech goalie.
