Petr contributes to the Blues’ record win
Petr has completed his second Chelsea game this season. He was sent on for a Group G match with Maribor and was able to retain a clean sheet and thus contribute to Chelsea's 6-0 victory - the highest Champions League win in the team’s history.
“It’s nice to have a new record. It was an important game and we were looking to get back in the groove of winning after our draw with Schalke. We’d like to qualify as soon as possible to avoid having to fight for it till the last moment,” said Petr.
“The result would suggest it was a pretty straightforward match but Maribor was actually decent. Having said that, they opened up their game a bit too much and we duly exploited that. Our performance was very solid. We scored right away and even though the score was already 3-0 by half-time, we didn’t relent and added three more. We kept playing to our fullest, which must have been quite the treat for the fans,” Petr commented on the game’s development.
Having been awarded a penalty kick at 4-0 in the 64th minute, Maribor came close to decreasing their goal deficit. Fortunately, Ibraimi struck the post. “I’d guessed the side right, though I did not manage to get my hands on the ball. My hands were pretty close to the post, though, so I might have been able to save it had it gone in,” Petr described the penalty.
Other than that he was happy with the team’s overall performance. “A record win plus a clean sheet; not too shabby. Despite the huge score difference they still got a lot of shots in and I was able to ward them off no problem. It was a spectacular game for all of us where the insane win was a logical consequence,” stated Petr.
Tuesday’s Champions League round in general, too, broke a record due to the fact that a total of incredible 40 goals was scored. “Right when I saw the results of 6-0, 4-3, 0-7 and 1-7 glowing up on the billboard at the end of our match, I knew the total would be extraordinary. For a neutral fan this will be intriguing, for the supporters of the respective defeated teams perhaps not so much,” added Petr.
