Petr is celebrating his fourth title for Chelsea!
Petr can now celebrate the fourth Chelsea title of his career! After the triumphs of 2005, 2006, and 2010, yesterday the Blues beat Crystal Palace 1:0 and can officially not be overtaken in the table anymore. Petr did not partake in yesterday’s game; he supported his team from the bench as a substitute.
How happy are you about the fourth title?
Every kind of silverware is great, it never gets old. We’re all ecstatic obviously, but this has been the very first one for a some guys on our team and so for them it’s all the more special. It’s a wonderful reward for a whole year’s hard work. We’ve been the best this entire season and to have secured the title after 35 games already is a huge success.
You have acquired two trophies this season.
Yes, which is why it is to be rated as a very successful one. We’ve got the title and the League Cup, which definitely constitutes a reason to celebrate.
What exactly went on immediately after the match?
We messed around a bit on the pitch and drank some champagne in the changing rooms. We’ll only get the actual trophy after the home game against Sunderland. The guys went out to celebrate but I had to fly back to the Czech Republic. I’ve got to apply for a new passport because we’re supposed to be doing an Australia tour right after the end of the season. Now that I’m in Prague, I’ll go watch some ice hockey on Monday and then fly back to London on Tuesday.
The match with Crystal Palace was not as easy as people might have expected. Your opponent had quite a few opportunities towards the end.
They were going all-in, had nothing to lose. In England no one ever gives in - they fought tooth and nail right up till the last second but somehow we managed to pull through. In the end I think we deserved to win.
This year there is literally no grounds to doubt that Chelsea deserves the title, you have been on top this entire season.
That’s true, we’ve retained the first spot throughout. This just goes to prove that the title landed in the right hands.
For you personally this season was slightly different to the previous one, you became number two.
I played six games this season. We won all of them and I retained a clean sheet in five. I’m glad I could help at least one way or another and when I did get a chance, I delivered. There wasn’t a whole lot of games I could participate and inevitably you do end up perceiving the title a bit differently, too. But I’m still very happy we won it.
Everyone in England praised you for delivering a fantastic performance every time you were sent on.
I always strived to be 100% prepared to help my team, and so I was able to contribute to my team’s successes to some extent. Every single point is essential when it comes to winning the title and I won all I could. That’s a pleasant feeling.
