Petr is enjoying training with kids at his Football School
The Sparta Prague training centre is currently hosting Petr Cech's Football Camp for the eighth time. The children are thrilled to see that Petr and his guest, Chelsea goalkeeper coach Christophe Lollichon, have arrived to join them. Roughly 150 children will have participated by the end of the two-week training camp.
Petr, can you reveal what's new about this year's Football Camp?
We've launched online registration for children from abroad, we've got kids from English and French speaking countries, as well as some from Asia and South Africa. I'm happy to see there's a lot of kids from Slovakia, too. We've also started offering placements for applicants from SOS Villages. We try to offer something new every year.
What do the trainings look like?
I've been trying to attend to as many age/skill groups as possible, be it goalkeepers or outfield players. We made sure both training teams were present at the same time on Sunday so they'd get to see me while I'm still here. I've got to be in London in a week to join the beginning of our prep for next season. I signed tons of pictures, we finished the day off with some beach football and volleyball. Christophe and I demonstrated a couple of friendly competitions that the other Chelsea goalies and I like to do after training. We all had a blast and I honestly hope the rest of the camp works out just as great.
Are you glad to have Christophe over once again?
Yes, and I'm pretty sure the same goes for all the participants. Christophe is French and he approaches goalkeeper training in a different way than Czech goalies are used to. He started coaching in Nantes, which back then was the best academy in Europe. Whenever he trains, it's incredibly interesting to watch.
What brought you to establishing a Football school?
When I was little I really felt like going to football camps as sport was my priority. But I never got the opportunity. That's why I decided to create that option for other kids instead. Most of the programme takes place on the pitch but beside that the children also learn some English, attend discussion seminars and are taught the basics of healthy lifestyle. I'm delighted by the fact that there's so much demand every year.
What about all of this pleases you the most?
Whenever I notice improvement, for example. Some kids have attended in previous years, as well. I'm glad to see we are actually able to teach them something new. I'd like to thank coaches from Sparta for the way they've been conducting the training, as well as the goalkeeper legend Zdenek Hruska, who's been helping us, too.
