Petr secures a win for the Blues
Chelsea's number one goalkeeper demonstrated his unprecedented skill in the game against Aston Villa. It was in large part his saves that led to the Blues' 2-1 win.
"I definitely wasn't bored and I'm glad to have warded off two major scoring opportunities," said Petr after the match, where it was Ivanovic who scored the winner in the 73. minute. Petr's most crucial save came toward the end of the game when he managed to deflect Weimann's strike away from the goal. "The game was no walk in the park, Villa was really disciplined. They wouldn't let anyone into the box and we had a pretty hard time squeezing through. Luckily we managed to score right away, even though Aston Villa did equalise right before half-time. After that we were forced to spread out a bit and try a different approach, which eventually led to our second goal. It wasn't easy but those three points are what actually matters," stated Petr.
The Blues are already bracing for next Monday's match with Manchester United at Old Trafford. "It's going to be huge. It may not be a particularly important game considering how early in the season it is, but we need to focus on outperforming our rivals nevertheless. If we win, it's going to be yet another boost for our psyche before the Super Cup. Manchester have been doing well so far, they won their first away game, and I bet the next match is going to be an exciting confrontation," added Petr.
