Qualification for Capital One Cup semifinals
Petr started for Chelsea for the third time in a row and helped the team reach a 3-1 win against second-division Derby County, thus securing qualification for Capital One Cup semifinals.
“It was a team that’s been doing well in the Championship. We’d been bracing ourselves for a tough match, which it was. They had nothing to lose against us, but we dealt with it well. Our first goal was effectively a punishment for our hosts mistake and you could say we had the rest of the game under control. We scored another goal at the beginning of the second half, though they did comeback afterwards. Fortunately, one of their own got ruled off eventually and we used that to score the winner,” Petr described the match.
Towards the end of the game, young Chelsea sweeper Kurt Zouma incurred an injury after a collision with Petr, who was attempting to punch the ball away. The French defender had to be treated on the pitch and carried away on a stretcher.
“I punched the ball away, he was just running over and our heads collided. He hit me from the side, luckily I was wearing my helmet which mellowed the impact for both of us. Kurt was still quite shaken, even lost consciousness for a little while, but he came to soon and started communicating,” said Petr. “He seems okay fortunately, he’s just in a bit of a shock, and he went home with us just like everyone else. We discussed it after the game and he said it was bad luck, situations like this tend to be unavoidable in football games,” he added.
