Spectacular performance and a first Premier League clean sheet for Arsenal
Petr has had an amazing match. He demonstrated a flawless performance in the game with Liverpool which ended in a goalless draw, and his confident saves led him to the first clean sheet in the Gunner's jersey. "Too bad we didn't win three points," Petr admitted after the match.
England exolts you for being a hero; several Premier League players expressed their praise and recognition on Twitter. Are you happy about the outcome?
The first home game didn't exactly go according to plan and I didn't do well, but one always has to forget about the past and prepare for the next game as best as possible, so that the same mistakes aren't made. I'd prepared a lot and I'm glad it showed. It's necessary to demonstrate that the club bought me for a good reason.
Which one of your saves was the toughest in this game?
The one where Benteke was up close. Our sweeper Gabriel went in with a sliding block and missed the ball by inches. Benteke was on his own but luckily I managed the knock the ball away. At the end of the first half I managed to ward off Coutinho's strike, too, but I'd seen that one coming a while before that. It was crucial to overcome these scoring opportunities, especially after we'd been denied a goal. There was no room for conceding at that point.
The game transpired at an enormous pace; there were plenty of opportunities on both sides.
That's exactly it's so had to believe that the match ended 0-0. We made a lot of mistakes in the first half but improved significantly in the second. We should have scored then. We hit the post once but never managed to push the ball all the way into the net. Perhaps also because Mignolet was on top of his form. It would have been merrier to finish off with three points but what can you do. We'll take the point and move on.
You were missing two of your defenders, Mertesacker and Koscielny. Was that a huge issue?
We had to deal with it and the guys who jumped in for them did great work. This simply proves that every team should ideally have a replacement for every single post. I think that we all did out absolute maximum. It may not have been enough for three points but there were a lot of positives nevertheless - especially in the second half. The only negative is the fact we didn't manage to put our scoring opportunities to proper use.
