The Gunners are now in the third spot of the table, holding the same amount of points as second Tottenham and losing five points on leading Leicester. It is also Leicester who Arsenal are due to host at Emirates Stadium next week.

Arsenal scored both goals in the first half within 88 seconds of each other. The first was sent in by Özil, followed shortly thereafter by Oxlade-Chamberlain. “It’s a crucial win. Because of the way the table is arranged at the moment we really needed to win and I’m glad we managed,” Petr commented after the game.

“The clean sheet on top of that doesn’t hurt. Bournemouth got themselves into several scoring opportunities and I knew we couldn’t concede if we were to retain control without overdramatising it,” Petr stated.

He showed off several masterful saves, whether that was Arter’s challenge in the first half or Smith’s strike towards the end of the second. During stoppage time, Petr was tested by Cook and Arter whose shots he was forced to deny in rapid succession.

“All the saves came in important moments and I’m glad I was able to contribute towards the three points. As for fhe double save at the end of the game, I didn’t see anything at first but I managed to stick my foot in there just in time. The low shot to follow was easier to deal with since I could actually see the ball and was able to prepare for it a bit,” Petr described
