Victory over Liverpool!
The Blues secured an immensely crucial win against Liverpool. They now find themselves in the third spot of the table, two points behind Arsenal. “It really is an important win. I’m glad we didn’t give in and managed to stand our ground,” said Petr after the 2-1 victory.
Liverpool were the ones to take the lead initially, however Hazard’s and Eto’o’s goals more than redeemed the Blues’ brief hesitation. “It was a face-to-face battle for the top of the table. We’ve managed to cut the reds off for the time being, but it’s still pretty crammed in the first couple of spots of the table. It seems like the final rounds of the season will be quite to treat to observe,” admitted Petr.
He was happy about the fact that the Blues did not get too thrown off their feet by Liverpool’s goal from the third minute. “It wasn’t the best start but we went on to put them under a lot of pressure. We had a lot of chances, scored twice and ours taking the lead by half-time was more than well-deserved. The second half was very even but we managed to maintain the same kind of pressure. They struck the crossbar once, threatened us a little with two dangerous goal opportunities but other than that we had everything under control,” said Petr.
The match was extraordinarily stressful for both sides. “Games like this are always accompanied by a lot of emotion. It was all or nothing for us, however it was nothing we hadn’t been through before. The refs did a good job and the fans must have had a blast, too. There was a lot of determination which is why things got a little heated every now and again.”
Petr was further pleased with the fact that Chelsea managed to cope with the recent series of games quite successfully. “There were two difficult games. We drew with Arsenal and beat Liverpool and Swansea. Now we need to on the upcoming Southampton match, which is set for New Year’s. Our schedule’s extremely challenging but we’re trained to endure it. You need to make sure you get in some regeneration time, that’s all,” added Petr.
