We've advanced and Fernando sets a new record
The Blues fulfilled their duties and advanced into the Europa League quarterfinals after their 3:1 win against Steaua Bucharest. Petr contributed to this result with several outstanding saves.
"It was a good game. We used our chances and scored. Our opponent's performance was nothing short of commendable with all of their counter-attacks, but we managed to get them under pressure. Our advancement is well deserved despite the fact that it wasn't exactly easy after our loss in Bucharest. Steaua had nothing to lose and scored in the replay, too, but overall didn't pose a major threat," said Petr.
One of his highlights was a mere couple of minutes into the match when he successfully managed to ward off the opponent's must-score goal chance. "That was definitely a vital save but there was another shot in the second half which was even dodgier, the ball fell extremely fast and curled in the end and I couldn't see much. I was relieved when I finally palmed it away," described Petr.
He was also thrilled by Fernando Torres's goal. "It's good for both him and us all. He resolved the situation excellently and scored a crucial goal which surely lifted his spirits after a goalless period. He failed to score from a penalty kick later on but that didn't matter. You could still see how confident he suddenly was when he was preparing for it," stated Petr.
Torres simultaneously secured a place in the history books by becoming the world's first player to score in seven different competitions within a single season: the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup and Community Shield. "On top of all that he was the best striker of the UEFA European Championship. It's quite rare for this to happen but Fernando fully deserves it."
