An Opening American Tour Win with Captain's Armband
Arsenal beat San Jose MLS All-Stars 2-1 in an opening match of their North American tour after young striker Akpom scored the winner in the 87th minute. Petr featured for 70 minutes, as had been agreed, however he was slightly disappointed by the fact that he had conceded a challenge by his long-time Chelsea teammate, Didier Drogba.
"This was the first game of the new season. It was a successful one, so there's no reason to not be happy about it. I felt great and was honoured that I was entrusted the captain's band for the very first time at Arsenal," said Petr,
He was not particularly excited about Drogba's equalizer. "The fact that it was Didier who scored was a little unfortunate," stated Petr, smiling. "But all that mattered was to make it a decent game, which we did," he added. Petr was substituted by Martinez in the 67th minute.
